Saturday 7th August 2021 we participated in the LDN7s tournament based in Chiswick. Despite the heavy rain at the beginning of the day, all teams arrived and the sun began to shine to all for a competitive competition. Our first game was against Beder 7s, a charity based rugby team who were also in their first year as a club. Despite them having an advantage on the size front, we managed to play flowing rugby, avoiding contact and wining a close game 12 - 7. Second up was Scotty's Army, a well established Army charity team with 2 mens team and a women team. Our confidence as a team was showing now as we kept to our game plan and played some attractive 7s rugby in slightly dryer conditions. We ended the game with a 17-0 victory. The last of the group games was against Compeed Marlborough, an invitational 7s set up, who have a team in the open and the social. We put up a strong fight for a majority of the game, however a few injuries and lack of subs got the better of us and we let it slip 31-19. We qualified for the plate semi-final, and were up against the Royal Marines a well drilled set up. We had an outstanding start, with three tries in the first half, and going into the second half 21-0. Concentration and a few missed tackles let us down in the second half, resulting in a very frustrating 26-21 loss. Overall, disappointing we did not take way any silverware but a good performance from the boys throughout the day and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the social after…!
