We are also offering the opportunity (on a first come first serve basis) of Bed and Breakfast in the dormitories overlooking the Close.

This is a fundraising event specifically for your old House.
All leading schools have to fundraise for a variety of projects and reasons. There is a fine balance to be struck with respect to the use of surplus funds and Clifton’s wonderful buildings do cost a lot to maintain; in essence without fundraising there would be less money for bursaries and less money for one-off capital projects.
Extensive refurbishment is about to be undertaken to the fabric and interior of School House. The cost of this is estimated in the region of £150,000. We are already indebted to one OC who has ‘kick started’ the appeal with a generous gift of £10,000 (plus gift aid).
How you can support......
House shields - prominently positioned (on the south facing bay) you can see these six shields are badly eroded. A gift of £5000 per shield will enable restoration and donors will be acknowledged by a plaque with their chosen names (s).
Dormitories - why not place your name on your favorite dorm ? Maybe team up with fellow chums. £2500 per name on a brass plaque...alternatively choose a favorite spot within the House to place your mark.
Restoration of Simon and Sue Reece's garden - lovingly created by Simon and Sue during their tenure; it was decimated by the need to use the lawn and garden during BSK refurbishment. We are seeking £5000 to return it to its former glory.
SH silk ties, bow ties and cufflinks (see photos below)- never before available on the ‘open market’ these may be purchased for: Ties: £30.00, Bow ties.£30.00 Cuff links: £30.00
In addition to the refurbishment of the House we are hoping to create a School House bursary fund:
The history of School House may be said to begin on 3rd April 1860 at 7 Gloucester Road, where a committee of Bristolians met for the first time to discuss the possibilities of founding a College. Later that year approval was given for the purchase of ‘Adam’s Land' and an isolated public house together totalling an area of 10 acres. Charles Hansome (brother to the designer of the Hansome cab) was engaged in construction of the first college buildings School House and Big school. In late 1862 the House opened with an intake of 25 boys and had the dominant position in the School until Brown’s opened in 1864. School House was built on the site of the ‘Gardener’s Arms’ public house and the pinkish stone was quarried from nearby...the rest as they say is history.
In 1862 boarding fees were £85 per annum. This is approximately £8500 in today's money. 25 individual donations of this amount will enable the establishment of an endowment fund to support eligible pupils in perpetuity. This can be gifted in one sum or by regular giving over a period of time. An honours board will acknowledge all donors.
THANK YOU and we look forward to welcoming many of you on the night, in what we hope will be a unique occasion.
We appreciate ‘pockets can be large or small’ and donations of any amount towards the House will, of course, be gratefully received.
Gift Aid: If you are a UK taxpayer and you are happy to tick the Gift Aid box, please do so to allow us to claim another 25p from the Government for each £1 donated
